High Temperature Drying (HTD) in Bins

With HTD systems crops can be harvested tough or damp. This system requires a good quality bin aeration system that will distribute air evenly in the bin, a high volume aeration fan, a high temperature heater, and a grain stirring system.

This drying system is designed to deliver high heat air with low relative humidity. The grain at the bottom of the bin is dried very rapidly and a stirring machine is necessary to prevent serious over drying.

Avonlea offers a complete line of high temp burners and stirring machines for hopper and flat bottom bins to create a
FAST DRY system to meet your needs.

Benefits to this system are as follow:

  1.      Grain can be dried very quickly compared to NAD and LTD systems.
  2.      Outside weather conditions do not affect this system significantly.

Drawbacks to this system are as follow:

  1.      The cost of this system is much greater than NAD and LTD systems.
  2.      Grain sample quality can be affected with high heat drying. Bran wrinkle, bushel weight loss, and        shrivel of immature kernels are some concerns.
  3.      Fuel requirements per pound of water removed from the grain is higher than in LTD systems.
  4.      Transportation of the grain in and out of the drying bin.
