How Avonlea Grain Temperature Monitors Work

All of the Avonlea grain temperature monitoring systems use cables inside of the bin to sense grain temperatures. In bin diameters up to 22 feet one cable at the center of the bin is recommended. The cable should run from the top of the bin to within two feet of the bottom. The sensors are located approximately every four feet along the cable, which allows for multiple checkpoints throughout the grain depth. Fines and weed seeds will concentrate in the center of the bin as it is filled which is usually where problems will occur first. The outward sensing distance of these cables is about 10 feet so one cable should provide adequate protection in bins of this size.

In grain bins with a diameter greater than 22 feet one cable down the center is better than nothing but does not really give the protection required. Three or more cables spaced equally part way down the roof increases the coverage in the grain mass and is recommended.
The two basic types of temperature cables available are Opi One and Stor Max. The Opi One monitor system is a no frills package that will provide reliable cost effective temperature readings. If you would like more information on Opi One please CLICK HERE.

The Stor Max monitor system is a more comprehensive package, which has many more features than Opi One. If you would like more information on Stor Max please CLICK HERE.

There is also a Pro Version of Stor Max available. This monitor system uses a computer to monitor your bins and can even control fans and heaters. If you would like more information on Stor Max Pro please CLICK HERE.
